For over 3 years Synapsys Assessments (SMIA and SPIA) have helped over 20000 people of all ages – very young school children, parents, college graduates, working professionals and human resource managers to understand themselves and others around them in a positive way. Synapsys Assessments have been found to be extremely valuable to parents, teachers, educationists and corporate human resource professionals in understanding people, their behavior, motivations and innate propensities so as to make intelligent choices and maximize the potential of people they are responsible for.
These assessment tools have proved to be easy to use and interpret, reasonably priced, effective and accurate.
In this treatise we have attempted to document the following
1. The theories on which the Synapsys Assessments have been based
2. A critique of these theories and comparison with other popular and established theories
3. The significant and published research which validate and support the premises on which Synapsys Assessments are based

We believe that any Assessment Tool which provides insights into individual’s behavior, personality, traits, etc and which is meant to assist people in taking knowledgeable decisions about themselves and others has to be thoroughly researched, grounded in documented and accepted theories, validated and tested for reasonable accuracy.
In discussing the limitations we understand and accept that no assessment tool which deals with the enormous complexity of the human brain and human behavior can be 100% accurate. The same is applicable to all Psychometric Tests and Assessments which are used globally. But, what we can safely conclude is that they are firmly grounded in validated theories. However, a lot depends on interpretation of test results by trained experts as also the correct and ethical dissemination of such interpretations to the subjects of such tests.
The stated purpose of this paper is to study how Synapsys Assessments and the models on which they are based relate to current theories. It also places Synapsys Assessments in both a historical and modern context in order to prove the validity of their theoretical models. Synapsys Assessments have not been designed as clinical tools and are not meant to be used for diagnostic purposes and are meant for an understanding of the self in terms of general psychological parameters – Personality, Multiple Intelligences, Learning Styles, Motivational factors , etc. Through such an understanding it is expected that people would be able to achieve their true potential and work with others in a better way.
