The origins of the Lacoste brand date back to 1927. A young Frenchman named Rene Lacoste was anxiously awaiting the start of a key Davis Cup match at the Roland Garros Tennis Stadium in Paris, on which the progress of the French team would depend. France went on to not only win that match, but the Davis Cup too. At the end of the grueling series, the journalists nicknamed him Lacoste the “Crocodile” - and thus was born a legend.
Rene Lacoste started a company to manufacture them. So proud was he of the quality of his Polo shirt, that he gave it his personal trademark - the crocodile logo.
