Franchise News India, Franchise News,Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi is finally going to sell its wares in brick and mortar stores in India. The company has tied up with The Mobile Store, where it will sell limited numbers of Mi 4 and Redmi Note 4G smartphones. The first run will include 55 stores in Delhi and NCR and the sales will begin from tomorrow, Economic Times reports.

This is not the first time for Xiaomi to try the offline retail model as it already sells the Redmi Note 4G at select Airtel stores but one still needs to reserve the phone online. It isn’t clear at the moment whether the same would be necessary for this partnership. The stores will also double up as service centres for Xiaomi.

Xiaomi, which is known for its online flash sales that run out of stocks in minutes if not seconds, also sells its products in offline retail in China where it has partnerships with carriers. However, over two-thirds of smartphone sales still happens on its own online store.

In India, Xiaomi has partnered exclusively with Flipkart to sell its devices. However, earlier this month Xiaomi started selling accessories on its own website, mi.com/in. The company has previously announced plans to eventually sell products from its website.

Earlier this week Xiaomi started selling the Redmi 2 smartphone on Flipkart. The first batch of 50,000 units were sold out in seconds. It also had an open sale for its first tablet, the Mi Pad, which also sold out within hours. Xiaomi didn’t reveal how many units of the Mi Pad were put on sale.

Xiaomi, which entered India last year, sold a million units in a matter of months. It now claims to be the fifth largest smartphone brand in the country.

The world’s most valuable startup is currently valued at $45 billion. In India, it forced many local brands to ape its business model. Micromax, for instance, has started a new company, YU, which follows the online-only retail model.
