Kahala Brands, Cold Stone\u2019s parent company, recently signed master franchise<\/a><\/strong> agreements with Tablez Food Co., an Abu Dhabi-based company that has brought a number of franchise<\/a><\/strong> concepts to India, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, including Famous Dave\u2019s BBQ and Genghis Grill.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, Tablez will open 40 Cold Stone locations across India and five in Sri Lanka over the next five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cTablez Food Co. is a leading organization in India and is a perfect fit for the Cold Stone Creamery brand,\u201d Kahala Senior Vice President of International Operations and Development Eddy Jimenez said in a statement. \u201cThey specialize in unique, home-grown and international cuisines, and have acquired the rights to many leading franchise<\/a><\/strong> concepts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first location is expected to open in a mall in Kochi, India, this November.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the next five years, Tablez Food Co. plans to invest around $11 (million) to $13 million in the Cold Stone Creamery business across India and Sri Lanka,\u201d said Shafeena Yussuf Ali, chairwoman of Tablez . \u201cCold Stone Creamery offers the best quality product and offers an amazing in-store experience that the international market has embraced for a number of years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tablez is part of Lulu Group International LLC, a diversified company with operations in more than 20 countries in industries including retail<\/a><\/strong>, imports\/exports, trading, shipping, IT, tourism and education & training<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cold Stone has made signing franchise agreements in international markets a key point of the company\u2019s growth plan, Kahala Chairman and CEO Michael Serruya told me last week.<\/p>\n

Serruya and his brothers, Aaron and Simon, acquired Kahala in 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the factors that weighed into our initial acquisition of the company was understanding their international capabilities,” he said .

While the initial deal is to open 40 stores in India, Serruya said he believes there could one day be hundreds of stores in that market.
